TestPilot quizzes for the Testing Center

Most settings will be the same whether you give an open quiz available anywhere, or a high stakes exam in the Testing Center. When creating your TestPilot quiz, use the following information as a guideline for recommended settings for Testing Center exams. For questions on specific settings, please contact the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence at scan@psu.edu.

Submit Actions:
  • Score: You have a choice to report the score for the exam at the time the student submits their exam.
  • Answer: You have a choice whether to report the correct answers for an exam when the student submits their exam.
  • Feedback: TestPilot can deliver question-level feedback when the student submits the exam. This is NOT recommended because of time constraints at the Testing Center.
Security:
  • Global information: Standard settings are recommended
  • Time limits: Set start and an end times that correspond with the times you are offering the exam in the Testing Center.
  • Recall time: This is an auto-submit time. It is recommended that you set this to the same time as the end time of the exam.
  • Elapsed time limit: Set this to the amount of time you wish your students to have to complete the exam.
  • It is recommended that you include a "time remaining" message.
  • Warn participants x minutes before expiration: It is recommended that you set this to ten. It will give your students a message when they have ten minutes left for the exam.
  • Submit user responses automatically upon expiration: It is recommended that you check this. It will automatically submit the exam at the end of the testing period.
Attempt Limits:
  • Request limit: It is recommended that you set this to three. If a student has a technical problem during an exam, this will allow the Testing Center staff to move the student to a new workstation and restart the exam.
  • Submission limit: It is recommended that you set this to one, allowing students to submit the exam only one time.
Authorized Participants:
  • Set the lookaside file to: "RosterX.tpx" automatically pulls the current roster file from the Registrar’s office.
Authorized Workstations:
  • Set the lookaside file to: "TestingCenter.tpx" allows the exam to be taken only in the Testing Center.
